The abstract paintings of Yura Adams express a vivid experience of energy. Her paintings investigate the observation and interpretation of light as seen from both a human scale and microscopic viewpoint. Readings on the physics of light have guided this work, but the material and improvisational experience of applying pigment dominates what happens in the studio. In recent paintings, she pulls thin layers of pigment over fluorescents to develop luminosity. The communication of the paintings is intuitive, the language poetic, and the work frequently evokes the physical experience of looking at light.
